A Three-dimensional Map of the Milky Way Using 66,000 Mira Variable Stars

We study the three-dimensional structure of Milky Way using 65,981 Mira variable stars discovered by Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) survey. The spatial distribution is analyzed with a model containing three barred components that include X-shaped boxy component in Galactic center (GC), and an axisymmetric disk. take into account distance uncertainties implementing Bayesian hierarchical inference method. to GC $R_0 = 7.66 \pm 0.01 \mathrm{(stat.)} 0.39 \mathrm{(sys.)}$ kpc, while inclination major axis bulge Sun-GC line-of-sight $\theta 20.2^\circ 0.6^\circ 0.7^\circ \mathrm{(sys.)} $. present, for first time, detailed map composed young intermediate-age stellar populations. Our analysis provides independent evidence both flaring disk (being plausibly warped). provide complete dataset properties Miras were used calculations this work. table includes: mean brightness amplitudes nine photometric bands (covering range wavelength from 0.5 12 $\mu$m), chemical type, estimated extinction, calculated its uncertainty each variable. median accuracy star at level $6.6\%$.
